Dutch Imports of LED Lamp Plummet Significantly to $136M in 2024 - News and Statistics - IndexBox

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of LED lamps increased by 1.8% to 57M units in 2024. In general, total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2017 to 2024: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last seven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, imports decreased by -47.2% against 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 59%. Imports peaked at 108M units in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2024, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, LED lamp imports reduced to $125M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 76%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $279M. From 2019 to 2024, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2023, China (39M units) constituted the largest supplier of LED lamp to the Netherlands, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, LED lamp imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (4.6M units), eightfold. Germany (4.3M units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.7% share.

From 2017 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+30.3% per year) and Germany (+4.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($60M) constituted the largest supplier of LED lamps to the Netherlands, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($18M), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 11% share.

From 2017 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled -7.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+21.6% per year) and Germany (-5.2% per year).

In 2023, the led lamp price stood at $2.4 per unit (CIF, Netherlands), with an increase of 7.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 10%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3.4 per unit. From 2019 to 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($4.2 per unit), while the price for China ($1.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
